Water based & UV Coatings Overview

Water based coatings cover a wide range of applications to exact specifications in both single-sided and double sided formats.

DS Chemport can offer special effect water based coatings using the latest innovative technology.

Apart from the highest gloss products, water-based coatings applied to certain stocks give comparable results to UV Lacquers in finish. They also have other substantial advantages such as; they are readily applied in-line wet-on-wet, over conventional inks and give a consistent finish on printed and non-printed areas.

Water-based coatings range

Gloss single sided

High Gloss Coating - This coating exhibits very high gloss levels and is designed for the carton industry to give good slip, rub resistance and drying speed. Available in 40 & 60 second viscosity. Gloss level between 70 – 75% on coated board.

Super Gloss coating - A high gloss coating product designed to offer reliable on-press application and performance. High solid content ensures excellent gloss levels and slip characteristics. Available in 40 & 60 second viscosity. Gloss level between 75 – 80% on coated board.

ULTRA Gloss coating - The highest gloss emulsion in the DSC range.
Water white and aesthetically pleasing. It is slow drying and for best results, used with intense wax free inks on high quality art paper. Available in 80-90 second viscosity. Gloss level between 85- 90% on fine art paper.

Gloss Double Sided

Non crazing gloss sealer – viscosity. A high gloss emulsion suitable for double sided application. Good drying and excellent rub resistance provides maximum press speed potential with minimum transfer times between print and finishing.

Satin & Matt Double Sided

Satin Coating – A general purpose coating giving a smooth , non-streaking finish. This product has low curl properties. Has a high level of solids ensuring excellent mileage.

Luxury matt coating – A very smooth matt coating which dries without streaking.

Satin gloss levels between 20 – 30%
Matt gloss levels between 5 – 15%

Special coatings

Blisterpack adhesive – Specifically formulated for subsequent heat-sealing of plastic blisters. Excellent adhesion to a number of blisters including PVC and PET G.

Primer Coating – A primer for subsequent flood application of UV Coating. This product will enhance the finish and gloss of the UV end result.

Non-stick Barrier Coat – Developed to provide very high grease and oil barrier properties. Contains a catalyst that provides resistance to heat and sticking. The coating is capable of withstanding sub-zero temperatures.

Soap/ Alkali resistant Coating – This product is suitable for packaging that may come into contact with soap and alkali cleaning products. Gloss is mid range and can be run double sided.

Pearlescent coating – A coating which gives a pearlescent finish. Only suitable for single-sided application. A wide range of colours are available on request.

Water based coating Sundries

Emulsion wash-up - This wash up solution is designed to tackle the most stubborn of dried coatings, as well as the complete removal of emulsion from plates, blankets and rollers. It has been formulated to re-dissolve dried coating and its fast evaporation rate makes it efficient for a speedy wash up.

Emulsion flush solution - This solution is designed to be pumped through the coating unit pipework, thereby removing any build up of dried coating or contamination. Particulary useful in hot conditions where coatings may be prone to drying in the pipes.

UV Coatings

DS Chemport UV coatings are manufactured from the highest quality raw materials imported from Europe to give excellent results while meeting the most stringent health and safety criteria. All raw materials used follow the acrylate preference criteria guidelines.

The presscoat range includes UV coatings for rollercoat application, anilox and gravure coating units, modified damping systems, ink duct systems and silk screen presses.

Our coatings are available in varying viscosities, depending on the type of application equipment available. Pleae contact our technical department for advice on the most suitable product.

UV Coatings Range

‘WOW’ Gloss Coating – Formulated to provide a high gloss finish for quality work. Flexibility of the product allows this coating to be used for coater and flexo unit’s in-line over aqueous primed conventional ink. This coating is low irritant and a Benzo free version is available.

Offline gloss Coating – This product provides excellent adhesion and good gloss levels when used off-line over UV Inks.

Hi Viscosity Hi Gloss Coating – Developed to provide a high gloss finish for quality print work. It is recommended for in-line application over UV inks. This coating provides high scuff resistance and excellent adhesion to ink and paper.

UV Matt Coating – Designed to provide a matt finish for quality work. It is suitable to be used in-line, wet-on-wet, off-line, flexo, flexo chamberblade and with sheetfed coater application.

UV LM Gloss Coating – Low migration UV coating to accompany Quasar LM inks.

UV Silkscreen Coating – A screen product for application over a wide range of stocks including vinyl and plastics.

UV Hi Gloss Packaging Varnish - High Gloss UV cure varnish for quality packaging applications. formulated to provide a high gloss finish for quality packaging printed work. This product is suitable for off-line application over conventional oil based offset inks and in-line over UV inks

UV Carton Gloss coating - High Gloss UV cure varnish for quality packaging applications. formulated to provide a high gloss finish for quality packaging printed work over UV Inks. This product is not suitable for off-line application over conventional oil based offset inks.

Ink Duct application - Wet plate UV Varnishes.

UV8013 matt litho varnish – This product is designed to give a good matt finish and good adhesion over a wide range of substrates, in-line over UV inks and off-line over conventional inks.

UV8500 Gloss Benzo Free Litho Varnish - A litho varnish formulated to give a high gloss finish and good adhesion over a wide range of substrates, in-line over UV inks and off-line over conventional inks.

Quasar UV Inks

Quasar 8046 Process Inks – Designed to have excellent print characteristics due to its improved strength and transfer characteristics. Recommended for the use in high quality commercial sheetfed and packaging applications. Quasar 8046 Inks achieve excellent ink/water balance and positive solid colour cure speeds.

Quasar 8500 Continuous Stationary Inks – A low tack four colour and pantone series designed for Web Offset continuous stationary web presses especially suited to low grammage stocks where picking may occur.

Quasar 8710 Vinyl Plastick series – Are formulated for excellent adhesion on various plastics such as PP, PVC and PE. They are suitable for S/F, O/S, Rotary offset and Letter Press.

Quasar 9000 Series Mixing Inks – A complete range of UV curable mixing inks as well as intermixes to order. Mixes achieved are accurate matches to Pantone Matching System. Quasar 9000 Series Inks achieve high colour strength and good press stability.

Quasar LM Low Migration Inks – Developed for the Food and Pharmaceutical Packaging Industry, which allows printing on the outer side of primary food packaging. Quasar LM Inks are prodImageuced using materials recommended to achieve very low risk of migration and odour when the printed surface comes into contact with the inner food surface.

Ready Mixed UV Metallic Inks – Single pot, bright luster golds and silver. Single and 2 pack available

Pantone Fluorescent Inks – Full range of basic colours, as well as intermixes to order. These inks exhibit very high colour strength and good press stability.
